| PSA: Falling off the face of the earth... |
[Mar. 19th, 2008|09:29 pm] |
Hey y'all.
I'm going to be dropping off the face of the earth for a bit as a perfect storm of work, life, projects, training for a marathon, and learning about 2 sets of music on bass guitar (plus backing vocals, which will actually probably be the tough part) just hit.
If you need to contact me, hit me up via cell, and if its urgent, please say so. Note: if you're randomly in PGH from out of town, that is actually still considered "urgent".
And if I don't respond to your email/LJ/phone-call, it isn't because I don't want to talk to you, it's merely because the next couple months are going to be a bear.
Best, Avo |

I'm thinking of picking up the bass. Any advice from a fledgling who is terrified of instruments with strings?
yes.
My first bit of advice is: "you can do it, it isn't that hard"
I think my second bit of advice is: "Don't get frustrated when other people are better than you, that's not what it's about"
But both of those are pretty general. The more specific advice varies on what your financial situation is and what you're looking to do, but mainly, I'd say it's best to just pick up a bass and start playing. Don't be afraid to download the not-requiring-you-to-read-music "Bass Tab" for songs you want to learn, and just try to play along. And keep trying. Pick easy songs then move to harder ones.
A lot of it depends on what you're looking to get out of playing, what your musical background is, what your style of learning is, etc...but if you want to chat about it sometime, feel free to give me a buzz and I'll give you my non-professional opinion.
Good luck during your crunch time! See you on the other side. | |
