knee is randomly bothering me: i blame softball and the onset of cold weather (although perhaps i need new shoes or am getting old, as Princess Clarke reminded me).
blew off tai chi (which has been going really well...feel like i'm learning a lot again and my form seems to be coming together as i pick up more nuances) tonight which translated into me getting a metric boat load of stuff done around the house: Two loads of dishes done, stove wiped down, fridge cleaned, cabinets reorganized, 2 loads of laundry done, basement door weatherized, insulating blanket refitted to new hot water heater, dog walked, crap put away....good stuff.
Now: bedtime. |

| Crazy old universe... |
[Feb. 4th, 2009|08:04 pm] |
So I'm walking back the three blocks from the convention center to the hotel and there's this old black cat playing on the sax, all lonesome in the park that's nestled between the convention buildings. It's dusk and the sky is just this amazing southwestern hazy pink, with the air still clear but not bright. I drop a dollar in his case as I walk by...
"Do you know what song that is?" he asks, stopping for a moment?
"Yeah brother, 'To Dream the Impossible Dream' - I gotcha..." I respond.
"It's for the Cardinals..."
I give a friendly laugh and say, "I gotta tell you man...I'm from Pittsburgh. That was a great game though wasn't it?" smiling the whole time.
"No way?! For real...?" single gold tooth shining in the top of his mouth...
We laugh and shake hands, grinning, and bid each other well.
As I walk off, he starts playing again, this time all warmed up, nailing it, sultry and solitary with lots of space as the notes resonate through the buildings and the empty downtown air. |

[Sep. 11th, 2008|03:56 pm] |
I just found out that I am scheduled to present at a conference on the Monday after a Saturday evening wedding. I knew the conference was that week, but they only sent out the confirmed program yesterday.

| Oops. There it is! |
[Dec. 14th, 2007|09:42 am] |
Hit the wall last night. I really needed to crank on robot stuff, but unfortunately, I just couldn't manage it: my body gave out and I was physically exhausted.
This morning I was totally wiped and felt like *ss. Didn't want to get out of bed, felt physically ill and just hit snooze a whole bunch because of it all.
This shouldn't surprise me: I've been burning the candle at all ends for the last week or two, and especially so in the last 6 days. I've been stealing back some sleep when I could, but the robot thing has been a debacle from the "working in parallel" perspective and I just haven't been able to get away to hibernate for a night (meaning: get more than 5 hours of sleep).
Oh well, tomorrow I'll get to sleep in and hopefully get some major rest. I'm supposed to go to my Aunt and Uncle's for their X-mas party out in Carlisle, but perhaps I'll cancel due to weather (supposed to get a lot of snow). God, I love weather. |

| Summertime... |
[Jun. 20th, 2007|10:36 pm] |
Summer is here and I'm lovin' it. Things with morleyroarly have ramped up and we're floating...very nice, very nice. She went to a regional burn, Scorched Nuts, this weekend with a whole bunch of the Pittsburgh crew and had a great time, but despite desperately wanting to go for a "first time" event (to help set the tone, of course), I managed to beg off and stayed home to work on house and bus stuff. It was one of those "I've been wanting to work on all these projects all winter, and if I don't do it now, it's not going to get done" moments.
( weekend notes )
Anyway, the other stuff that's been going on is...drumroll please...Morley's parents are coming in this weekend (so we're running around like madfolks trying to clean), I'm crazy at work, we visited my parents two weekends ago for Dad's 60th birthday (go dad!) which was a blast and really great because I got to spend lots of quality time with Dad, and with the whole family AND Morley, which is always nice. Interesting conversations all over the place, lots of skeet shot, things fixed, people who went to high school with my parents convinced that they need to go to Burning Man, possum caught, rabid Raccoons, and singing energizer bunnies. ...followed by dinners with Stargazers in Breweries which are notably fresh during drives home...
Otherwise, I've discovered about 3 brick walkways and a patio in the backyard under about 1.5-2" of grass and mostly in perfect condition (there's a little settling in two places, but nothing major) -- it's a bit like digging for buried treasure in the backyard, except I keep actually finding stuff. Very fun. The only challenge is to not get caught up in digging holes all over my back yard all the time (lots of other stuff to do!). And.......that's all I can think of. Gotta clean more of the house and perhaps actually get some sleep tonight. Woot!
Afterthought... I've been meaning to post all kinds of meta-thoughts which have been floating around in my head lately, mostly based around sharing information ("we're a village, we need to share more information about our lives and experiences with each other") and how our relationships with others grow and change over time, even though sometimes it's our initial impression that still sticks with us and influences how we interact with them. Very odd. But...some of those will have to wait for later.
Post-Post-script: Yesterday was our first major summer thunderstorm with beautiful rain and lightning all day long. ROUTE 51 was flooded out, the sky was black, the wind was gusting and the rain kept falling on and off all day long. I love summertime. |

I hate office lighting.
I got into the office early this morning and was able to enjoy just over a half hour of semi-ambient lit, darkened office before someone came in and turned on the overhead flourescents. Very jarring (and more than I expected). God I miss having my own office.
In other news, stuff in Pittsburgh is good. Spring is here, work is (relatively) good, and things are going well on the home front. Had a great time last weekend at Moon's 60th birthday followed by various shannanegins at home with Sara and her friend Craig (who is, believe it or not, Pittsburgh's Queen Jeffrey. Oh my word, the similarities are scary.) On Sunday Morley came to her first hash run and we climbed to the top of Mt. Washington...twice.
Anyway, lots of other stuff going on but no time to write. Enjoying life and Pittsburgh. Hope to be go to see Emo Philips this weekend (never seen him perform before - thanks to moorlock for posting about the SF shows), etc.
p.s. Hi georgejas! Hope you're enjoying Seattle! |

| Bus Maintenance |
[Feb. 27th, 2007|03:04 am] |
This is all mostly for my own edification.
( bus stuff )
I think that's it for the bus stuff.
I'm sick (got a cold), super busy (work, bus stuff, and home life), and well, pretty damn happy.
Need to post on recent trip to Stargaze, Chateau Muffy, the Clarke Compound, and E&C's Moonshine Garden but still organizing thoughts and it's a little low on the priority list at the moment.
Super big shout out to my wonderful fiancee for being so patient with all my bus workings and fiddlings. morleyroarly you rock my world!
Hope you're all well! |

It's been far too long, and I still don't have time for a real post, so here are some bullet items:( Read more... )
That's the dump. Things have been "BUSY" at work, home, and otherwise. Headed to Maine in a week to see M's folks and get some quality family hangin' time in there, then back here for NYE's. M's headed back to SF for the weekend for a memorial, and I'm looking at wedding venues (whee!) and hopefully finishing the garden.

| Passport in Hand! |
[Mar. 14th, 2006|12:46 pm] |
My passport has arrived back from being sent to the Indian Consulate in NYC. I have a visa!
Woot!
Work is insane, haven't been exercising much or doing Tai Chi (other than class), volkswagen has been progressing but waiting for another endplay shim, lots of fun over the weekend with Terri and at heyjude's party, good productive phone conversations with bonehead and morleyroarly, cooking dinner for Kip+Renee+ fuzzycoffeebean+ denovich and missing phone calls from fu_urns as a result, showing up at Dee's in a suit, being served a $50 glass of port after dinner because they were out of the $25 variety, having fun at work, re-learning Thermo and evaporative cooling tower design, etc.
Gotta jet, more work to be done. Life is insane, busy, haven't been sleeping, manic, love! |

Monday morning I arrived in Pittsburgh after a Red-Eye flight from San Francisco Int'l Airport. I walked out into the 18 degree F weather wearing shorts and Corcoran Jump Boots, heading across two lots of Long Term Parking to the Extended Long Term lot, where I hoped to find my trusty 1987 Honda CRX.

I had 3 lovely phone conversations last night with three amazing women. One happened to be my sister (who is cute, but still my sister) and the other two were hotties who continue to impress me across the board.
Life is good and I'm floating.
Now if I could only manage to fit some sleep into this wonderful lifestyle I've carved out for myself... |

caffiene kicks in...words start to flow, fingers moving in a concert which is music to my soul, forming words acting on their own in translation of thoughts, all in concert to some internal hum as Duke's band grooves on popping vinyl, filling the room with the rhythm of another time and space... |
